NATURE’S
COOLERS’ HISTORY
Current owner, Charles O’Brady, and close friend,
David Ewing-Chow, founded nature’s Coolers in
2001. The idea came about from a love of Peanut Punch
by both men. Peanut Punch is a beverage manufactured
by most Trinidad and Tobagonians in their homes, but
is also done on a large scale for export to most of
the Caribbean and the US. When Mr. O’Brady migrated
to Brooklyn in 1976, he was not at an age where he could
have driven to the local Trinbagonian restaurants, so
he started making it himself. There, was planted the
seed that germinated to Nature’s Coolers.
Mr. O’Brady migrated to Lauderhill Florida, with
his family in 1988, to escape the brutal cold he experienced
in Brooklyn, NY. He had been teaching math for the past
three years, after completing his Bachelors in Mathematics
at Long Island University. It was at this institution,
where he played on the soccer team, and was a member
of the vibrant Caribbean Students Movement, he began
getting accolades for the same Peanut Punch. These positive
feedbacks inspired him to start making the beverage
for one of his high school (Brooklyn Tech) classmates,
who had recently acquired an ice-cream store in Lauderhill
Mall. This, however, had to be done on a part-time basis,
while he taught full-time, tutored, coached the school’s
soccer teams, and did a little evening school teaching.
It was in his teaching and coaching capacity, that he
met Mr. Ewing-Chow. One of Mr. Ewing-Chow’s daughters
was in the math class, and the other on the girl’s
soccer team. Mr. Ewing-Chow was introduced to the now
known Peanut Punch. Immediately a friendship was grown,
and the foundation for starting a corporation was set.
At this time, Nature’s Coolers is now run by Mr.
O’Brady, Fred Williams, a close friend and parent
of a former tutee, and Glenn O’Brady, a brother
of Charles. Mr. Ewing-Chow is no longer in the corporation,
but has input in the operation. The company is now producing
about 25 different beverages, offers some dishes, mainly
vegetarian, and some items for overall well-being. Our
mission is to provide products to improve one’s
mind, body and soul. As the name of the corporation
suggests, we would like people to try and be harmonious,
the name of the corporation is Tri-Harmony, and the
way we would like to achieve this, is to have people
do it NATURALLY.
